1979 / Tony Smith / Cleveland
A bright orange stepped arch that soars 35 feet in the air. It was designed by premier American minimalist Tony Smith. The conspicuous arch covers the plaza in front of the Frank J. Lausche State Office Building. The striking orange enamel does not blend into the architecture of the dark glass monolith behind it, nor does it intend to. It is imposing, bold and incapable of being ignored.
