Vietnam Veteran Memorial.jpg

This stone memorial resides in Trumbull county's Veteran's Park. The relief sculpture is shaped like a head stone and depicts a simple map of Vietnam with a rifle puncturing the land mass at the barrel with a helmet resting on the gun's stock. It is accompanied by an eternal flame between two pairs of shoes enclosed in a cage that sits in front of the inscribed memorial. The purpose of this sculpture is to honor the fallen American soldiers who served in the Vietnam War.

The inscription reads: TRUMBULL COUNTY VIETNAM VETERANS • "MOTTO" • The dreams for peace that for America have grown comfortable with Luzon, Iwo Jima, and the Belleau Woods, now draw back to the sounds of Chu Lai, Van Tong, and Khe Sanh; yet these dreams that created America, created our plight, dropped into an historic void of a nation's guilt-- we come forth; not as mercenaries for our pay but as sons to our inherent rights. Not demanding sympathy, but desiring empathy; so that the dreams of our fathers shall not pass this generation by... and lay waste to the memories of our still great nation, nor to force the memories of those who's dreams were forced by chance and circumstance to lie for all eternity, face-down in paddy mud.
